Abstract

This study aims to analyze in depth the implementation of the Sharaf (Arabic morphology) learning method at Al-Kamil Islamic Boarding School. As a core component of Arabic grammar, Sharaf plays a crucial role in enabling students (santri) to comprehend classical and modern Arabic texts both structurally and contextually. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with students and teachers, and documentation of learning activities. The findings reveal that the instructional strategies applied include daily tashrif drills, contextual sentence practices, story-based assignments, and peer discussion on morphological patterns. Teachers utilize a variety of teaching techniques such as auditory repetition, guided writing, dialogue creation, and structured analysis of root patterns (wazn). Evaluation is conducted through oral exams, written tests, and performance in daily language use. The study found that this approach significantly improved students’ morphological competence, speaking fluency, and confidence in using Arabic accurately. Furthermore, the integration of Sharaf learning into daily activities fosters an immersive environment that reinforces grammar skills beyond the classroom. This research concludes that a practice-based, integrated Sharaf instruction model is effective for developing Arabic proficiency in modern Islamic boarding schools.
