Abstract
Hypertension is a global health problem that contributes to the risk of heart disease and stroke. One of the symptoms often experienced by people with hypertension is headache, which can reduce quality of life. Non-pharmacological interventions such as warm compresses on the neck are considered as a safe and inexpensive alternative to help relieve headaches in hypertensive patients. This study used a case study design with two hypertensive subjects who experienced headaches in Demangan Hamlet, Wuluhan District, Jember Regency. The intervention in the form of applying warm compresses to the neck was carried out once a day for 15 minutes, for three consecutive days. The level of headache was measured using a simple descriptive pain scale before and after the intervention. Data were collected through direct observation and interviews. The results showed that both patients showed a decrease in headache scale after the application of warm compresses. The first patient experienced a decrease from moderate to mild pain, while the second patient reported a decrease in pain intensity from moderate to mild after three days of therapy. These findings support the theory that local heat triggers vasodilation, muscle relaxation, and increased blood circulation, which together reduce the transmission of pain signals. Psychologically, the warm sensation also provides a calming effect that helps reduce the perception of pain. In conclusion, the application of warm compresses to the neck has been proven effective in reducing the intensity of headaches in hypertensive patients in Demangan Hamlet. This therapy can be used as a safe, inexpensive, and easy-to-do non-pharmacological alternative at home. It is recommended that health workers in the area provide education to patients and families on how to use warm compresses correctly, including the optimal temperature and duration of application, to maximize benefits and prevent side effects such as skin irritation.
