Abstract

This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of i‘lāl and ibdāl in Surah Al-Mulk using a morphological approach in the science of narration. I‘lāl is a change in the form of a word due to the presence of weak letters (‘illat), while ibdāl is the process of replacing a letter with another letter in the Arabic morphological system. Surah Al-Mulk was chosen because it has many verbs and nouns that have the potential to contain morphological changes. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method, with an analysis technique for each verse in the surah to find the forms of i‘lāl and ibdāl that occur. Data were collected through literature studies of the Qur'an and books of narration and linguistic interpretation. The results of the study show that the i‘lāl form is more dominant in Surah Al-Mulk, such as in the words يُحْيِي, يُمِيتُ, and جَاءَكُم, which experience i‘lāl naqis and ajwaf. In contrast, the ibdāl form is only found in a limited way. This finding shows that i‘lāl has an important role in maintaining the balance between structure and meaning in Qur’anic Arabic. This analysis is expected to contribute to the development of linguistic studies of the Qur’an, especially in the morphological aspect.
