Abstract
Correctional institutions (Lapas) play a strategic role in the rehabilitation of inmates while maintaining internal security. One proven approach to enhance compliance and security is the implementation of sterile zones. This study aims to design a strategy for optimizing sterile areas in Class IIA Rantauprapat Correctional Facility. The methods used include participatory, observational, and preventive-repressive approaches. The results of the Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) show that the optimization of sterile zones—through zoning systems, strict supervision, visual signage installation, and active involvement of officers and inmates—has a positive impact on increasing awareness of the importance of discipline and compliance. This activity is expected to support the transformation of correctional governance towards a more accountable and secure system.
