Main Article Content
Abstract
Visitation services at the Class IIB Balige State Detention Center (Rutan) are crucial for fulfilling prisoners' rights to maintain social relationships with their families. However, the conventional system and overcrowding pose a significant risk to security and disorder during visitation. To address these issues, this community service initiative incorporates integrated innovations, including the use of ultraviolet (UV) stamps, the establishment of disaster assembly points, free parking tickets, and the installation of directional signs. The method used is a participatory-collaborative approach involving detention center officers and visitors, encompassing observation, technical training, facility implementation, and evaluation through questionnaires and interviews. The results of the activity demonstrate a significant increase in the effectiveness of visitation supervision, a decrease in security violations, and increased visitor satisfaction and officer discipline. This innovation has proven efficient, affordable, and suitable for implementation in environments with limited resources. This activity not only contributes in the short term through service improvements but also opens up opportunities for the development of low-tech service systems in the future. In conclusion, this innovative approach can serve as a model of good practice worthy of replication in other detention centers and correctional facilities in Indonesia.
