Abstract
Kicking is an important technique in karate. The problem underlying this study is the lack of Mawashi Geri kicking technique in most athletes. This study aims to analyze the effect of training methods using resistance bands on increasing Mawashi Geri kick repetitions of UKM Karate Unesa athletes. This study uses a correlation method with a Randomized Control Groups Pretest-Posttest design. The population of the study was UKM Karate Unesa athletes, with a sample of 10 athletes selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was a Mawashi Geri kick test using a stopwatch to kick as many times as possible in 5 sets for 10 seconds with the right and left feet. Data collection techniques were carried out through pretests and posttests, while data analysis techniques used paired sample t-tests. Based on the results of the paired sample t-test on the pretest and posttest data of the right and left foot kicking ability in both groups (K1 and K2), the significance values (Sig.) were obtained which were all below 0.05, namely 0.002 and 0.003 for group K1, and 0.001 and 0.017 for group K2. These results indicate that there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest values for the right and left foot kicks in each group. All are below the significance limit of 0.05. These results indicate that there is a real difference between the pretest and posttest results, which indicates an increase in kick repetition performance after being given treatment. These results provide recommendations for coaches to integrate resistance bands into their routine training programs.
