Abstract

Locomotor movement skills are one of the essential aspects of child development, as they serve as the foundation for engaging in more complex physical activities. However, preliminary observations conducted at SD Khadijah Wonorejo revealed that many students still exhibited inadequate locomotor skills and faced considerable difficulty in performing basic motor movements. This issue is primarily attributed to the ineffectiveness of the current instructional methods used in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK), which have not been able to optimally enhance students’ locomotor abilities. Therefore, it is necessary to implement efforts to improve students' locomotor skills through more effective teaching approaches. One such approach is the integration of small-sided games into PJOK instruction. This study aims to determine the effect of implementing small-sided games in PJOK learning on the improvement of locomotor movement skills among students at SD Khadijah Wonorejo. The research was conducted at SD Khadijah Wonorejo using a pre-experimental method with a pretest posttest design. The sample was selected through purposive sampling, involving 60 students divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The findings indicate that the application of small-sided games in PJOK significantly enhances students' locomotor movement skills, with an overall impact of 66.98%. This improvement was evident across all three assessed components of locomotor skills: speed, agility, and jumping ability. In conclusion, the implementation of small-sided games in PJOK can serve as an effective alternative instructional method for improving students' fundamental motor skills, thereby contributing to the enhancement of the overall quality of physical education in primary schools.
