Abstract
This report discusses a social work intervention conducted by a Social Welfare student in addressing a case of child abuse at the UPTD P3AKB (Women and Children Protection Unit) in North Sumatra Province. The practicum applied a case work method with a direct service approach to a 16-year-old female client who experienced physical and verbal abuse by her biological parents. The intervention stages included assessment, planning, implementation, monitoring, and termination over a period of one month. The intervention aimed to restore the client’s psychosocial condition through counseling, family mediation, and legal and social support. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs theory served as the theoretical framework to understand the client's needs and structure a step-by-step recovery strategy. The results showed significant improvements in the client’s social functioning, such as increased emotional expression, reduced fear, and parental commitment to change parenting behavior. The report recommends a holistic approach and institutional collaboration to ensure sustainable child protection.
