Abstract

This study aims to improve the quality of packaging for the Entul Goreng product produced by UMKM Entul Goreng Bu Riya in Desa Petak, Mojokerto, through the application of appropriate technology innovation in the form of an impulse sealer. The packaging process previously used a traditional method of sealing plastic with candles, resulting in weak, untidy seals that were not airtight and reduced the product's appeal and shelf life. This research employed an action research approach, comprising problem identification, intervention planning, training and socialization, technology implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and measurement of packaging quality indicators, including seal neatness, seal strength, airtightness, and packaging time per unit. The results showed significant improvement in all measured indicators. The seal became neater and more professional, stronger and more airtight, while packaging time per unit decreased by nearly half, demonstrating improved efficiency. Furthermore, the innovation also had a positive psychological impact, increasing the producer’s confidence and motivation to market the product to a broader market. This finding confirms that simple, appropriate technological innovations such as impulse sealers can enhance the quality and competitiveness of local UMKM products while empowering micro-entrepreneurs.
