Abstract
Degenerative diseases generally attack the human nervous system, blood vessels, muscles, and bones; one example is gout arthritis. One of the causes of increased uric acid levels is food that is a source of purine, a disorder of purine metabolism. The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between dietary patterns of purine sources and physical activity with uric acid levels in elderly women in Kranji Village, Lamongan Regency. This research design uses an observational Cross Sectional Study approach. The independent variables in this study were the amount of food intake from purine sources, the frequency of consumption of food sources from purine and physical activity. The dependent variable in this study was uric acid levels which were tested for the relationship between two variables using the Spearman Rank Test. The result of this study is that the average purine intake of respondents was 493.37 mg/day. There were 11 elderly people who had normal uric acid levels with less physical activity, namely 32.4%. The average uric acid level of respondents was 5.77 ml/dL. There is a significant relationship between the amount of intake of food sources of purine, the frequency of consumption of food sources of purine and physical activity with uric acid levels in the elderly in Kranji Village, Lamongan Regency (p=0.000; p=0.008; p=0.000).
