ANALISIS POLA PERSEBARAN DAN EKONOMI PASAR DI PAYAKUMBUH

Abstract
This study aims to analyze the distribution pattern of markets and economic activities in Payakumbuh City, West Sumatra, using an economic geography approach. This city has an important role as a center for community-based trade and production, especially in the MSME sector such as rendang, local chocolate, and woven crafts. The concentration of markets and creative industries in certain areas creates unique economic dynamics, but also poses challenges such as spatial inequality and accessibility. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with in-depth interview techniques and field observations to understand the distribution of economic activities, regional accessibility, and geographic links to local economic development. The results show that the distribution pattern of markets in Payakumbuh tends to be centralized and in accordance with Christaller's Central Place Theory. Good accessibility is a major supporting factor for economic growth, but outlying areas still face limitations in distribution and infrastructure. This study recommends increasing access and strengthening digital promotion to support an inclusive and sustainable local economy
