Abstract

This study explores the semantic change of slang terms on TikTok, a rapidly evolving social media platform that significantly influences language usage among its diverse user base. By analyzing a range of popular slang expressions, this research investigates how these terms are adapted, redefined, and disseminated within the TikTok community, reflecting the platform's unique cultural landscape. Employing qualitative content analysis alongside user engagement metrics, the study examines the factors driving these linguistic shifts, including cultural trends, peer influence, and the platform's interactive features. Through case studies of specific slang terms, the research highlights how context, humor, and visual elements contribute to the evolving meanings of these expressions. Findings reveal that TikTok not only serves as a breeding ground for new slang but also accelerates the process of semantic change, demonstrating the fluidity of language in digital spaces. The study further discusses the implications of these changes for communication, identity formation, and community building among users.
