Abstract
Speech acts are not limited to interactions between individuals, but can also be found in literary works, including in film media. As a form of literary work, films often use speech acts that are seen through dialogue between characters. The form of this speech act is directive speech acts. This study examines the application of directive speech acts in the film Kupu-Kupu Kertas directed by Emil Herdi. This study aims to describe the forms of directive speech acts used by the characters in the film. The theory used is Searle's theory. This study applies the content analysis method through a qualitative approach. The data source is the dialogue of the film Kupu-Kupu Kertas directed by Emil Herdi. The data taken is in the form of speech dialogue which is a directive speech act in the film Kupu-Kupu Kertas directed by Emil Herdi. The research collection technique is in the form of listening and note-taking techniques. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the commanding form of speech acts appears the most. This is because commanding speech dominates some forms of directive speech acts and is generally conveyed in the dialogue of this film.
