Abstract
The development of environmentally friendly transportation technology has led to an increase in the use of electric bicycles on public roads. However, the widespread use of electric bicycles without a proper understanding of traffic regulations poses a significant risk of traffic accidents. This study aims to analyze the legal liability of electric bicycle users when proven to be the cause of road traffic accidents. The research method used is normative juridical with a statutory and case approach. The findings indicate that the absence of specific regulations governing electric bicycles in Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation results in a legal vacuum in clearly determining liability. Nevertheless, electric bicycle users can still be held accountable, both criminally and civilly, if proven negligent and causing harm to others. This study recommends the urgent need for regulatory adjustments to accommodate the unique characteristics of electric vehicles, along with enhanced public education on traffic safety for electric bicycle users.
