Abstract
Hypertension is a common degenerative disease in the elderly and a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. One non-pharmacological therapy that can be used is warm water foot soak hydrotherapy, especially when combined with ginger, which has a natural vasodilator effect. The method in this research is a descriptive case study conducted on one patient with a history of hypertension. The intervention was carried out for three consecutive days using the hydrotherapy method of soaking feet in warm water mixed with ginger for 15 minutes each day. Blood pressure measurements were taken before and after the intervention. The results showed a decrease in blood pressure after the intervention. Blood pressure on the first day before the intervention was 169/94 mmHg to 166/104 mmHg, on the second day from 159/108 mmHg to 152/99 mmHg, and on the third day from 152/108 mmHg to 151/101 mmHg. A more consistent decrease occurred in diastolic pressure. Therefore, hydrotherapy, a warm foot soak with ginger, has been shown to lower blood pressure, particularly diastolic blood pressure, through vasodilation and relaxation. This therapy is safe, easy to perform, and has the potential to be an alternative non-pharmacological intervention for managing hypertension in the elderly.
