Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by an increase in blood sugar caused by disruption of the insulin hormone which functions to maintain body homeostasis by lowering blood sugar levels. Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) is an activity to provide knowledge, understanding of coping within oneself and the behavior needed in the independent management of DM sufferers. The purpose of describing the level of understanding and changes in the attitudes of patients and families after implementing the DSME program at Dr. H. Koesnadi Bondowoso Regional Hospital. This research design uses a descriptive case study type, the subjects in this case study are clients with Diabetes Mellitus who meet the exclusion and inclusion criteria. The focus of this case study is the Implementation of the DSME Program, the location and time of the research at Dr. H. Koesnadi Bondowoso Hospital was carried out for 3 days. The research instruments used were assessment sheets, observation sheets, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) sheets, pamphlets and posters. Data collection was carried out by interview, physical examination, and document study. Based on the case study on Mrs. L which was carried out for 3 days, the results showed a decrease in blood sugar levels and an increase in knowledge related to the management of diabetes mellitus. The implementation of the Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) Program is effective in reducing blood sugar levels and increasing knowledge in managing the disease.
