Abstract

Leucorrhea, commonly referred to as vaginal discharge, is a frequent concern experienced by adolescent girls, both in its physiological and pathological forms. Adolescence marks a transitional stage characterized by significant hormonal changes that can naturally stimulate vaginal secretions. However, poor hygiene practices, inappropriate choice of undergarments, and limited understanding of reproductive health may contribute to the development of pathological discharge. This article aims to elaborate on the types, causes, consequences, and management strategies of leucorrhea in adolescents, while also promoting awareness through reproductive health education. Most adolescents are unable to differentiate between normal and abnormal discharge, often resulting in delayed treatment. Education focusing on genital hygiene and early identification of infection symptoms is essential in preventing further complications. Hence, the involvement of families, educational institutions, and healthcare professionals is crucial in enhancing adolescents’ reproductive health literacy, particularly concerning leucorrhea.
