Abstract
Background: Gout arthritis is a common degenerative disease in the elderly, characterized by elevated blood uric acid levels and severe joint pain. Non-pharmacological therapies such as warm compresses with lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) are known to have anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects that can help reduce pain intensity. This study aims to describe the application of warm compresses with lemongrass to Mrs. S as an effort to reduce pain intensity in gouty arthritis. This study used a descriptive case study method on one elderly subject in Sukorejo Village, Bondowoso Regency. The intervention, which included warm compresses with lemongrass, was carried out for five consecutive days, with a duration of approximately 5 minutes each day. Results: Measurement of pain intensity using the Numeric Rating Scale showed a decrease in pain from 6 (moderate pain). This decrease indicates that warm compress therapy with lemongrass is effective in reducing pain in gouty arthritis. Conclusion: This therapy also provides an alternative herbal-based nursing intervention that is easy to apply, safe, and beneficial in improving the comfort of the elderly.
