Abstract

Hypertension is a circulatory system disorder that results in increased blood pressure above the normal value, or blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg. The use of warm compress therapy is one method of pain management by conducting heat energy, where heat can dilate blood vessels, increase muscle relaxation, thus improving circulation and enhancing the supply of oxygen and nutrients to blood vessel tissues. Neck pain refers to discomfort in the back of the neck, caused by pain in nerve endings located in various ligaments and neck muscles, as well as the uncovertebral joints and the outer layer of the annulus fibrosus disc. The purpose of this study is to describe the application of warm compresses to relieve neck pain in hypertensive patients at the Fanda Berkat Medika Panti Clinic. This research design uses a non-analytical descriptive approach, with research subjects being patients with hypertension who meet two criteria: inclusion and exclusion. The study focuses on the use of warm compresses on a patient, Mrs. M, who experiences neck pain. The research was conducted at the patient's home in Serut village over a period of 5 days. The instruments used in this study were assessment sheets, pain observation sheets, and standard operating procedure sheets. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and document studies. Based on the case study of Mrs. M, conducted over 3 days, it was found that the hypertensive patient received warm compress therapy in the neck area. The conclusion from this intervention is that there was a decrease in the pain scale from moderate pain (scale 5) to mild pain (scale 3). Warm compresses applied to the neck area can alleviate neck pain in patients with hypertension.
