RIVIEW JURNAL: FORMULASI PEMBUATAN BAHAN ALAM SEBAGAI SEDIAAN GEL

Abstract

The utilization of natural ingredients in gel formulation has been increasingly developed as a safe, effective, and eco-friendly alternative for topical treatments. This review article discusses findings from recent studies regarding the formulation and physical evaluation of natural-based gel preparations, particularly those containing Centella asiatica and Citrus aurantiifolia extracts. The method used was a literature review by systematically analyzing two nationally accredited scientific journals. The findings indicate that gelling agents such as semi-refined carrageenan, glucomannan, and sodium CMC play a crucial role in determining the physical quality of gel preparations, including pH, viscosity, homogeneity, spreadability, and adhesion. Lime peel extract demonstrates potential as a natural sunscreen, while gotu kola extract is effective as a wound healing and antioxidant agent. However, not all formulations achieved optimal outcomes across all physical evaluation parameters. Therefore, further optimization in terms of formula composition and processing techniques is necessary to produce gel preparations that are stable, effective, and safe for use.
