Abstract

This research explores the recruitment and selection system for ship crews at PT XYZ, focusing on three key elements: the recruitment process, the selection criteria and requirements, and how the company addresses challenges in maritime workforce recruitment. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with data collected through in-depth interviews with four key informants, field observations, and document analysis. The study reveals that PT XYZ's recruitment process remains informal and lacks standardized procedures or digital integration. Selection is primarily based on document completeness, while technical skills and mental readiness are often overlooked. Moreover, crew performance evaluation is not conducted regularly or systematically but is only addressed reactively when problems arise onboard. Based on these findings, the study recommends the development of clear recruitment SOPs, pre-deployment training programs, adoption of digital systems, and partnerships with professional training institutions to enhance recruitment quality and efficiency.
