Abstract

This study aims to explore the application of the Tut Wuri Handayani principle in the elementary school environment, specifically at SD Negeri 2 Badau. The principle, introduced by Ki Hadjar Dewantara, emphasizes the importance of educators acting as facilitators who provide encouragement from behind so that students can grow independently according to their innate potential. Through in-depth interviews with one student, one teacher, and the principal, it was found that all parties understand this principle well and implement it in daily practice. Students demonstrate independence and responsibility in learning, while teachers foster independence through active learning strategies such as discussions, projects, and differentiated approaches. The principal acts as a transformational leader who supports the implementation of this principle through training, provision of facilities, and strengthening collaboration. Although there are challenges such as limited time and differences in student characteristics, adaptive and innovative strategies have proven effective in overcoming them. The results of this study show that Tut Wuri Handayani is not just a slogan, but has become an integral part of the living educational culture at the school.
