Abstract

      Tradisi adalah suatu kebiasaan yang diwariskan dari suatu generasi ke generasi berikutnya secara turun-temurun, mencakup berbagai nilai budaya yang meliputi adat-istiadat, sistem kepercayaan, dan sebagainya. Dalam hal ini tradisi potong jari pada suku dani merupakan salah satu tradisi yang cukup ekstrim. Berbicara mengenai kebudayaan suku-suku di Papua, suku Dani yang mendiami wilayah Pegunungan Tengah, Papua memiliki sebuah tradisi yang dapat dinilai sebagai tradisi ekstrim yang cukup mengerikan. Untuk menggambarkan perasaanya atas rasa kehilangan dan duka akibat ditinggal orang-orang terkasih, suku Dani melambangkan rasa sedihnya bukan hanya dengan menitihkan air mata melainkan juga dengan memotong jari-jari mereka. Tradisi ini adalah salah satu tindakan yang dinggap tepat oleh suku Dani dalam mengekspresikan kesedihan ditinggal oleh anggota keluarga. Masyarakat Dani cukup fanatik yang mana mereka percaya bahwa dengan potong jari saja mereka bisa terhindar dari malapetaka dan kesialan yang menimpa mereka dalam bentuk duka dalam keluarga dan sakit berturut-turut dalam keluarga. Terbukti bahwa tradisi potong jari memiliki beberapa makna di dalamnya antara lain adanya makna sosial atau simbol kasih sayang pada orang-orang tersayang mereka seperti dari suami kepada istri, orang tua kepada anak atau sebaliknya, makna religius atau kepercayaan kepada suatu hal, makna budaya dan moral atau suatu kebiasaan yang dilakukan turun-temurun dari para nenek moyang hingga saat ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan Makna,Nilai Nilai, Keberlangsungan tradisi Niki Paleg ditengah perkembangan Zaman dan Pengaruh Budaya Luar, Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi literatur yang mengacu pada berbagai sumber terdahulu baik buku ataupun jurnal terkait pembahasan yang serupa.

Talking about the culture of the tribes in Papua, the Dani tribe who inhabit the Central Mountains region, Papua has a tradition that can be considered as a quite terrible extreme tradition. To describe their feelings of loss and grief due to the loss of loved ones, the Dani tribe symbolizes their sadness not only by shedding tears but also by cutting their fingers. This tradition is one of the actions that is considered appropriate by the Dani tribe in expressing sadness at being left by a family member. The Dani people are quite fanatical in that they believe that by cutting their fingers they can avoid the disasters and misfortunes that befall them in the form of grief in the family and successive illnesses in the family. This study uses qualitative research with a literature study approach that refers to various previous sources, both books and journals related to similar discussions.
