Abstract
The formulation of the problem in this study is how do teachers motivate grade 2 students of junior high school in improving their speaking skills at the Muhammadiyah Bireuen Islamic Boarding School? and what are the difficulties faced by Arabic language teachers in motivating grade 2 students of junior high school in improving their learning skills at the Muhammadiyah Bireuen Islamic Boarding School? The research method in this thesis is a descriptive qualitative method. The results of the study indicate that the efforts of teachers to motivate grade 2 students of junior high school in the Muhammadiyah Bireuen Islamic Boarding School include, 1). Giving direction on the importance of learning and speaking Arabic, 2). Encouraging students to read Arabic books, 3). Encouraging students to speak Arabic everyday, 4). Motivating students to learn Arabic as part of the Islamic Religion, 5). Cooperating with the school's internal, 6). Encouraging students by giving rewards and punishments, 7). Holding additional classes outside of class hours. The difficulties faced by Arabic language teachers in motivating grade 2 students of junior high school at Muhammadiyah Bireuen Islamic Boarding School are as follows: 1). Students are afraid to speak Arabic, 2). Students have not mastered Arabic vocabulary, 3). Differences in student abilities, and 4). Lack of Arabic media and teaching language.
