Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji fenomena “Marriage is Scary” di platform TikTok pada kalangan perempuan, khususnya mahasiswi Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui wawancara mendalam terhadap tujuh informan, penelitian ini mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor internal seperti pengalaman masa lalu, ketakutan kehilangan kebebasan pribadi, dan kekhawatiran terhadap konflik dalam hubungan, serta faktor eksternal berupa ketidaksiapan emosional dan finansial, tekanan sosial budaya, dan paparan konten media sosial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa eksposur terhadap konten negatif tentang pernikahan di TikTok membentuk persepsi yang skeptis, terutama terkait risiko kegagalan, ketimpangan gender, dan kekerasan dalam rumah tangga. Fenomena ini mencerminkan pergeseran cara pandang generasi muda terhadap institusi pernikahan, yang kini lebih kritis dan reflektif. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan pentingnya literasi digital dan kesadaran emosional sebagai bekal untuk membentuk pandangan yang lebih seimbang sebelum mengambil keputusan untuk menikah.

Abstract


This study explores the “Marriage is Scary” phenomenon on TikTok among women, particularly female students at Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with seven informants, the study identifies internal factors such as past experiences, fear of losing personal freedom, and concerns over relationship conflict, as well as external factors including emotional and financial unpreparedness, socio-cultural pressure, and exposure to social media content. The findings show that exposure to negative content about marriage on TikTok fosters skeptical perceptions, particularly related to the risk of failure, gender inequality, and domestic violence. This phenomenon reflects a shift in how younger generations critically and reflectively view the institution of marriage. The study recommends the importance of digital literacy and emotional awareness to help form a more balanced perspective before making decisions about marriage.
