REKONTEKSTUALISASI RITUAL BAKAR BATU SUKU HUBULA DALAM FORMAT LECTURE PERFORMANCE OLEH INDONESIA ART MOVEMENT DI GALERI INDONESIA KAYA
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Bakar Batu performance by the Indonesia Art Movement, held on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Galeri Indonesia Kaya in Jakarta, is a cultural reinterpretation of the traditional communal cooking ritual practiced by the Hubula people of the Baliem Valley, Papua. Framed as a lecture performance, the presentation combined performative storytelling with symbolic staging such as hot stones, collective labor, and ancestral narratives—to communicate deeply rooted communal, spiritual, and ecological values. This study employs a case study and autoethnographic approach to examine how a sacred, local tradition is ethically transformed and recontextualized within a contemporary performance space. The findings indicate that such performance not only functions as artistic expression, but also as a powerful medium for cultural education, identity affirmation, and decolonial engagement with Papuan narratives in national art discourse.
