Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and obedience among police officers in the Samapta Unit of Polda Metro Jaya. The research background is rooted in the demanding duties of the Samapta unit, which frequently faces high-pressure situations such as crowd control during demonstrations, requiring emotional regulation to maintain professionalism and compliance with superior orders. This research employs a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consists of 130 police officers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire measuring emotional intelligence based on Goleman’s five dimensions and obedience based on Blass’s three aspects. Data analysis using Pearson correlation revealed a positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and obedience among Samapta officers of Polda Metro Jaya (r = 0.612; p < 0.001). These findings indicate that higher emotional intelligence levels in police officers are associated with higher obedience in carrying out duties. The results are expected to contribute to developing psychological training programs to enhance professionalism and effectiveness in police operations.
