Penerapan Massage Punggung terhadap Penurunan Skala Nyeri pada Pasien Post Sectio Caesarea di Wilayah Kerja Puskesmas Melur Kota Pekanbaru

Abstract

Background: Pain is one of the most common complaints experienced by patients after a cesarean section (C-section) and often becomes a barrier to maternal recovery. Inadequate pain management may prolong recovery, increase stress, and reduce quality of life. Non-pharmacological therapies such as back massage are considered effective complementary interventions to reduce postoperative pain. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of back massage on reducing pain intensity among post-cesarean section patients in the working area of Puskesmas Melur, Pekanbaru. Methods: This study employed an evidence-based practice (EBP) approach with a descriptive design involving two post-C-section patients who experienced moderate pain (Numeric Rating Scale score 4–5). Back massage was applied once daily for three consecutive days, with a duration of 10 minutes per session. Pain intensity was measured before and after the intervention using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Results: The findings showed that both patients experienced a decrease in pain intensity. In the first patient, the pain scale decreased from 5 (moderate) to 3 (mild), while in the second patient, the pain scale decreased from 4 (moderate) to 3 (mild). Patients also reported improved sleep quality, reduced analgesic use, and greater comfort during recovery. Conclusion: Back massage proved to be an effective complementary therapy for reducing pain intensity in post-cesarean section patients. It is simple, safe, and can be applied independently by patients with family assistance, thus supporting faster recovery and improving maternal comfort after surgery.
