Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on enhancing students' environmental literacy in biology education. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, five research articles were examined to evaluate the effectiveness of PBL across various educational levels. The results consistently show that PBL significantly improves students’ environmental literacy, particularly in cognitive skills and critical thinking abilities. This model actively engages students in solving real-world environmental problems, fostering meaningful and contextual learning. Compared to other instructional models, PBL is more effective in promoting deep understanding and increasing students’ awareness and concern for environmental issues. These findings suggest that the application of PBL is highly relevant in supporting the goals of biology education, which emphasizes not only conceptual understanding but also character development and environmental awareness.
