Abstract
This study aims to present and analyze the mass Ngaben ceremony in Bondalem Village, Buleleng Regency from the perspective of sociology of religion. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-expalnatory approach. The theoretical framework used as an analytical tool in this study is Emile Durkheim’s Sociology of Relegion theory. The finding reveal three major sociological dimensions of religion within the mass Ngaben ceremony : the social dimension, the sacred and profane dimension, and social solidarity. Futher more, the mass Ngaben ceremony demonstrates the emergence of mechanical solidarity through the collective beliefs that bind the individuals of Bondalem Village throughout the preparation and execution of the ceremony. Additionally, organic solidarity is formed due to the strong division of labor in its implementation. The relantionship and distinction between the sacred and the profane manifest during both the prepartion and execution of the ceremony. Elements such as banten, bade, sekah jenek, and the overal ritual process, as well as all sacred facilities and infrastructure, follow specific regulation in each procession while simultaneously interacting with profane aspects. The mass Ngaben ceremony represents a form of cultural adaptation that preserves religious values while also binding individuals into a colletive unty and influecing their awareness in performing the ritual.
