Abstract
Economic growth and rapid urbanization have spurred industrial development and increased electricity consumption, demanding efficient energy conversion. Boilers are crucial devices in industry for producing steam by heating water with thermal energy from fuel and air oxygen reactions. focuses on assessing the impact of varying air-fuel ratios on Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC) and boiler thermal efficiency. This research employs an experimental approach, varying the air-fuel ratio (AFR) at levels of 17, 19, 21, 23, and 25 in a cross-section water tube boiler. Data collected include steam temperature, pressure, and enthalpy, as well as their effects on thermal efficiency and SFC. The results indicate that boiler thermal efficiency peaks at AFR 23, reaching 71.26%, before stabilizing at AFR 25 due to excess air leading to inefficient heat absorption. Saturated steam temperature shows a linear increase with rising AFR, reaching 176°C at AFR 23. The study concludes with a recommendation to use AFR 23 as the optimal choice for achieving high thermal efficiency and low SFC in boiler operations for saturated steam production.
