REVIEW ARTIKEL: UJI STABILITAS DAN EFEKTIVITAS FORMULASI SERUM GEL EKSTRAK BUNGA MELATI (JASMINUM SAMBAC L.) SEBAGAI ANTI JERAWAT

Abstract

Acne vulgaris is a skin disorder characterized by infection and inflammation of the pilosebaceous unit, commonly caused by Propionibacterium acnes. One herbal alternative therapy is jasmine (Jasminum sambac L.) extract, which exhibits strong antibacterial activity. This review aims to evaluate the findings of Siti Malahayati et al. (2024) on the stability and effectiveness of jasmine extract serum gel as an anti-acne formulation. The study applied three different concentrations (12%, 13.5%, and 15%), tested antibacterial activity using nutrient agar and physical-chemical stability using accelerated stability testing for 30 days at 40 ± 2°C. The results showed that formula 3 (15%) produced an inhibition zone of 13.97 mm (strong antibacterial). All formulas met pH (5.23–5.65), adhesion, homogeneity, and viscosity standards, though formula 1 failed initial spreadability specifications. Formula 3 was concluded to be the most optimal formulation. This study highlights jasmine as a promising herbal active ingredient in pharmaceutical anti-acne cosmetics.
