Abstract

Innovation and digital technology have become essential drivers in transforming micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) in the digital economy era. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to examine the impact of innovation and technology adoption on the growth of MSMEs in Medan City, by analyzing eight relevant scholarly articles published between 2022 and 2024. The findings reveal that digitalization—through social media, e-commerce, financial applications, and non-cash payment systems—has significantly enhanced UMKM  revenue, operational efficiency, and market reach. However, several barriers remain, including low digital literacy, inadequate infrastructure, limited training, and constrained access to capital. This study recommends stronger collaboration between government, academia, and the private sector to build an inclusive and sustainable digital UMKM ecosystem. With the right use of technology, UMKM in Medan have the potential to become resilient engines of local economic growth in the digital age.
