Abstract

Hypertension is a common chronic condition characterized by a persistent increase in blood pressure, which poses a significant risk for complications such as stroke and heart disease. One of the frequent symptoms experienced by hypertensive patients is headache. In addition to pharmacological treatment, non-pharmacological interventions such as deep breathing relaxation techniques have been proven effective in reducing blood pressure and alleviating pain. This study employed a descriptive case study design involving one hypertensive patient experiencing headaches in the working area of Klabang Health Center, Bondowoso. The intervention consisted of administering deep breathing relaxation therapy for three consecutive days. Data were collected through interviews, vital signs observation, and evaluations of pain intensity and sleep quality. The results showed a decrease in blood pressure from 175/80 mmHg to 164/80 mmHg, a reduction in heart rate from 123 to 114 beats per minute, a lower headache intensity, and improved sleep patterns. These findings indicate that deep breathing relaxation therapy has a positive effect in reducing headache and lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Therefore, this technique can serve as a complementary therapy in the holistic management of hypertension.
