Abstract

Hospitalization is a crisis condition that requires a sick child to undergo treatment and therapy in the hospital until their condition allows them to return home. During the hospitalization process, the child must endure a series of painful and repetitive treatments. The care process often forces the child to be separated from their parents, which can lead to excessive fear and feelings of anxiety. The method implemented was an experimental (intervention) technique applied to a preschool-aged child. The intervention was carried out over a period of 3 days, with one coloring play therapy session conducted each day. Each session lasted for approximately 15–20 minutes. The subject in this case study was one preschool-aged child. The intervention activity (Evidence-Based Nursing) involved pre-test and post-test assessments using the VFAS (a tool to measure anxiety levels). On the first day, there was no decrease in the child’s anxiety level. On the second day, a decrease was observed, with a pre-test score of 6 and a post-test score of 5. On the third day, there was a further decrease, with a score of 0. Based on the results, it was concluded that coloring play therapy can help reduce anxiety levels in hospitalized children.
