Abstract
Anxiety is an emotional response to perceived threats, often characterized by feelings of uncertainty, helplessness, and excessive worry. It is a subjective experience that is communicated through interpersonal relationships. In preschool-aged children, anxiety can interfere with the adaptation process during hospitalization. One effective non-pharmacological intervention to manage anxiety is audiovisual distraction therapy. This method utilizes auditory and visual stimuli through film media to stimulate the release of endorphins, which help reduce stress and anxiety levels. This study employed an experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design involving a single preschool-aged patient experiencing anxiety during inpatient care at Arifin Achmad General Hospital. The audiovisual intervention was administered over two days. Anxiety levels were measured using the Child Anxiety Scale (CAS). The results showed a reduction in anxiety level from "mildly anxious" to "not anxious" after the intervention. Audiovisual distraction was found to be effective in reducing anxiety in hospitalized preschool children. This intervention can serve as an independent nursing action and may also be implemented by parents at home to help manage anxiety in preschool-aged children.
