Abstract

Background : Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that is often experienced by the elderly and is characterized by blood glucose levels that exceed normal limits. Stress can be one of the triggers for diabetes mellitus, especially when accompanied by a lack of individual knowledge in managing stress and blood sugar levels. Stress conditions that last for a long time can cause the pancreas to be unable to control the production of insulin, a hormone that plays a role in regulating blood glucose levels. Purpose : This study aims to analyze the relationship between stress levels and blood glucose levels in elderly patients with Diabetes Mellitus at Punakawan Clinic Bondowoso. Research design: This study uses a correlational study design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 27 elderly patients with diabetes mellitus. The sample was selected using purposive sampling based on the criteria of elderly patients with diabetes mellitus, resulting in a total of 25 elderly participants. Data collection was carried out using the PSQ questionnaire, and data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test (Rho). Result : The Spearman rank correlation test revealed a correlation coefficient of 0.637 with a p-value of 0.001, indicating a significant relationship between stress levels and blood glucose levels among elderly patients at Rumah Luka dan Khitan Punakawan Bondowoso. This Spearman rank correlation coefficient of 0.637 suggests that lower stress levels are associated with better blood glucose control in elderly patients.
