Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) type 1 is a condition caused by damage to pancreatic β-cells, either through an autoimmune or idiopathic process, resulting in decreased or cessation of insulin production. Family support serves assafety barrierin the case of diabetes mellitus patients, and is one of the factors that influences patient compliance with treatment. This study aims to describe the role of the family assafety barrier in the management with type 1 diabetes mellitus. This research design uses nursing process approach with a case study method that is explanatory and provides an overview of the research subject. The respondents selected were family members of patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus in Sumbertengah Bates Situbondo. The results of the study showed that the family functions assupport systemThe main thing is related to patient medication compliance, as well as supporting diabetes mellitus sufferers in adapting to their condition. Management of diabetes mellitus through pharmacological therapy, namely the administration of appropriate insulin and independent monitoring of blood sugar levels, will be achieved optimally when family support actively collaborates with sufferers in complying with medication.
