Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of public knowledge regarding protein and its role in health. A descriptive quantitative survey method was employed, distributing online questionnaires to 70 respondents from various age groups, educational backgrounds, and professions. The results indicate that the majority of respondents understand the definition of protein, its main functions in the body, and are able to identify both animal and plant-based protein sources. Knowledge about the consequences of protein deficiency, such as the risk of stunting in young children, is also well understood by most respondents. However, some misconceptions remain, particularly regarding protein sources, with a portion of respondents still considering green vegetables or oils as primary protein sources. Respondents’ protein consumption habits are generally positive, with a high frequency of both animal and plant-based protein intake, and daily portions that mostly meet recommended guidelines. Nevertheless, the practice of checking nutritional status at health facilities remains low, and education about protein has not been evenly received. This study highlights the need for further education to correct misconceptions and improve appropriate protein consumption behaviors, as well as the importance of enhancing nutrition literacy and access to health information to optimize public awareness and behavior in meeting protein requirements.
