ANALISIS TEORI EKUIVALENSI DALAM TERJEMAHAN SYAIR ABU NAWAS ”AL-I’TIRAAF”

Abstract

This study examines the application of equivalence theory in the translation of the Arabic religious poem “Al-I’tiraaf” by Abu Nawas into Indonesian. Using a qualitative method through library research, the study focuses on analyzing the implementation of formal and dynamic equivalence approaches in transferring the spiritual, emotional, and poetic elements of the original text. The source text and several translated versions are compared and analyzed stanza by stanza to assess the level of faithfulness and acceptability achieved by each translation strategy. he findings reveal that the dynamic equivalence approach tends to produce translations that are more emotionally resonant and culturally appropriate, especially in religious and poetic texts. In contrast, formal equivalence maintains textual structure but often falls short in conveying the intended emotional impact. This analysis illustrates that translation is not merely a mechanical task, but a cultural and spiritual bridge that requires interpretive sensitivity.
