Abstract

Pain after laparotomy occurs due to the surgical incision, which damages skin cells. Tissue trauma stimulates the production of chemicals such as bradykinin, serotonin, histamine, and proteotic enzymes. These substances stimulate pain and cause muscle stiffness. Pain receptors transmit these stimuli to the hypothalamus via nerves involved in pain transmission and perception, known as the nociceptive system, resulting in acute pain. Furthermore, pain signals from the injured area travel as electrochemical impulses along the nerves to the dorsal spinal cord (the area of the spine that receives signals from throughout the body). These messages are then transmitted to the body's peripheral nerves, resulting in diffuse pain. This intervention was performed in the Rose Room on two patients over three visits using the finger grip relaxation technique. The intervention lasted 15 minutes, and measurements were taken before and after the procedure regarding the SLKI indicator for mortality due to chronic pain. The results of this intervention showed a decrease in pain scale as measured by the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), in patients in treatment 1, from a pain scale of 6 to 4, and in patients in treatment 2, from a pain scale of 4 to a pain scale of 2. Finger-grip relaxation can be used as an alternative measure in pain management for acute pain problems.
