PENERAPAN MENGHISAP ES BATU UNTUK MENGURANGI RASA HAUS PASIEN CKD ON HD DENGAN HIPERVOLEMIA DI RUANGAN MAWAR RSUD ARIFIN ACHMAD

Abstract
Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis (HD) experience fluid restriction that causes excessive thirst, dry mouth, and discomfort. Hypervolemia is a common nursing problem. One non-pharmacological effort that can be done to reduce thirst is ice cube sucking therapy. This application aims to explain ice cube sucking therapy to reduce thirst in CKD patients on HD with hypervolemia nursing problems in the Mawar Room of Arifin Achmad Hospital, Pekanbaru. The application uses a descriptive case study approach in two CKD patients on HD. The intervention was carried out for two consecutive days with a duration of five minutes each day. Indicators of success of fluid status with expectations increased with the criteria for decreased edema, decreased dehydration, improved mucous membranes. Assessment of thirst intensity was carried out using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) instrument, as well as observations of pitting edema and mucous membrane conditions. After receiving ice cube sucking therapy, both patients showed a decrease in thirst intensity (VAS score of patient 1 from 7 to 3, and patient 2 from 9 to 4), a decrease in edema from grade 2 to grade 1, and an improvement in the condition of the mucous membranes from dry to moist. The application of ice cube sucking therapy has been proven effective in reducing thirst, improving body fluid balance, and reducing symptoms of hypervolemia in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis.
